Thora Birch

Thora Birch (born March 11 1982) is an American actress and producer. In 1988, she made her debut in a film with Purple People Eater. For this performance, she was awarded a Young Artist Award as "Best Young Actress under Nine Years of Age". Birch gained notoriety as a child star with appearances in films including All I Want for Christmas (1991), Patriot Games (1992), Hocus Pocus (1993), Monkey Trouble (1994), Now and Then (1995), and Alaska (1996).Her breakthrough role came in 1999 when she starred as Jane Burnham in the highly well-received film American Beauty, for which she was awarded a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Following that, she appeared in Ghost World (2001) as Enid. She was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. Birch was nominated for an Emmy Award for her performance in Homeless to Harvard: The Liz Murray Story in 2003. Other films she has appeared in include Dungeons & Dragons (2000), The Hole (2001), Silver City (2004), Dark Corners (2006), Winter of Frozen Dreams (2009), and Petunia (2012).After taking off from acting, Birch returned to her acting career in the year 2016 and has since starred in numerous independent films. Birch was also a part of Whisperer Mary as well as Gamma on Season 10 of The Walking Dead (2019-2020). Birch was born in Los Angeles, the eldest child of Jack Birch and Carol Connors. Birch was born into a family that originally was named Biersch is German-Jewish and Scandinavian. Birch also has French-Canadianand French-Canadian and Italian heritage. "Thora" is her name. It derives from the Norse god Thor who is the god of thunder and lightning. If she were a boy, that would be the full name. Kian Bolt Birch who is her younger brother, is also her mother.
